Welcome to North Baddesley Silver Surfers.

NBSS was established in September 2009 in order to help Senior Citizens of North Baddesley and surrounding area to become computer literate and enable them to take advantage of the great facility that is the internet.

comp25It was apparent that many seniors actually already had a laptop computer given to them by friends or family but in many cases had never used it, fearing they would end up breaking it.  Some had tried, but found the whole thing just too daunting.  For this reason, we ask everyone to bring their own computer to the meetings, although we do have some computers that we can loan for a period if someone wants to find out how they get on before purchasing their own.

We meet once a week on a Wednesday in the back of All Saints Church in Rownhams Road.  There are two sessions available, either 10am- 12 noon or 1pm - 3pm.  We meet in the church because All Saints have their own broadband server which can accommodate up to 15 computers at a time.  The church has been extremely supportive of the group and have allowed us to use many of their facilities in the process of establishing ourselves. If you have a disability, we can usually help you.  The church has a ramp for wheelchair users and we have members with a variety of impairments who have been helped with their computer use.  Age is no drawback - our most senior member is 90 in July and she is going great guns!

The meeting sessions are not lessons in the true sense of the word, although we usually have a period where everyone follows something new.  Most of the time people ask their own questions or obtain help and advice if they have a problem.  So NBSS is more of a club than lessons.

This site will eventually contain many notes which you may find useful if you have forgotten something or want to go over something again.  The members area requires a password which we will issue at the meetings.

The cost of each session is 3 which includes the provision of a hot drink and biscuits and helps us pay a donation to the church for the use of their facilities and various sundries (including this website).
